Per KCTCS Artificial Intelligence Guidance, "AI use should always be cited in assignments and formal writing according to the applicable disciplinary or professional style guide (e.g., MLA, APA). While there is currently no universally accepted citation format for AI, students and employees should follow the conventions of their field to determine the appropriate method. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can assist in various aspects of the research process. Always verify information provided and use "lateral reading" strategies to ensure the content is accurate! You should also be familiar enough with citation formats being used to review references formatted by AI tools. Below are a few ways you might consider using AI in your research assignments:

• Exploring research topics to discover and brainstorm ideas, and refine research questions
• Seeking background information to better understand a topic before you begin looking at more scholarly information
• Reviewing literature and discovering pertinent information available through linked citations and summaries
• Data analysis through trends, predictive modeling, and analysis of unstructured information such as interviews or content provided online through social media platforms 
• Test arguments and logic to refine persuasive positions, anticipate counterarguments, or identify gaps and faulty reasoning
• Checking your writing for grammar, spelling tone, and organization
• Citing sources correctly to help ensure you are not plagiarizing other sources and that your formatting is correct
