Ask A Librarian!: Need Materials?

Doing research and finding information is an important part of being a college student. But, these skills take some practice to develop and the MCTC librarians are here to help you make research your superpower!

This is better than Google!

Need library materials? No problem!

To check out library materials, we now have additional options for getting the books and DVDs you need (excluding reserve materials)!

  • As always, you can visit your campus library and get assistance from the library staff to select the library materials you need!
  • You can request materials be pulled for you and picked up at your home campus! You can do this by locating the item(s) you want in Primo and then chosing the "Get It" option, then "Request" to chose the campus you want to pick up from and to provide other information with library staff.
  • You can request materials be mailed to your home! Complete the form "Request for mailed library materials" to initiate a request.
  • You can borrow materials from other libraries through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service! To request items not available at MCTC campus libraries, complete the form hereBe sure to plan ahead since ILL materials usually take about a week to arrive for pickup at your campus library!

Find the right sources!

As you begin doing research, it is necessary to learn and understand how to find the right sources for your research. Scholarly research is NOT about going straight to Google or Wikipedia!

The Research Success Toolkit is a great place to start if you need help. Learn how to answer these important questions:

1. What is the assignment?

2. What sources should I consult?

3. What are the most appropriate information sources to use?

If you need assistance with starting your research project, Ask a Librarian.
